What did President Obama do on September 11, 2012 to protect the lives of the brave Americans who came under attack in Benghazi, Libya? That has been the question that everyone has been wondering and no one has got an answer to, until today. The answer? Nothing. The president did absolutely nothing.Testimony from Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey during yesterday's Senate Armed Services Committee hearing have revealed that as terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and killed four Americans, among them Ambassador Christopher Stevens, President Barack Obama did not act.
During questioning by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Secretary Panetta admitted that he had no communication with President Obama after their 'pre-scheduled' meeting at 5:00 p.m. During that time, the attack had already been under way for 90 minutes and although Panetta informed the president of the attack, no directives were given and there was no follow up from Obama that night. Not even a phone call.
Panetta’s testimony directly contradicts President Obama’s own claim to have issued “three directives” as soon as he learned “what was going on” in Benghazi. Just to refresh your memory, here is what President Obama told a Denver reporter back in October. He seemed somewhat caught off guard by the question (he isn't used to those pesky things.. 'questions')
"I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure we are securing our personnel and that we are doing whatever we need to. Number two, we are going to investigate exactly what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice." (Video of this interview can be found here)
It is inconceivable that during a one hour meeting with the national security adviser and the president, that Panetta didn't raise the question of what to do while our people were under attack. Moreover, it is even more mind blowing to try and accept the fact that even after being notified of the attack, Panetta didn't get in touch with the White House after he returned to the Pentagon and Obama never reached out either. Hard to believe, but that is exactly what happened.
While being questioned by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Panetta was also forced to admit that no military action had been taken during the hours long attacks. Let me repeat that for those who are in disbelief. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WAS DONE TO HELP THE AMERICANS WHO WERE UNDER ATTACK. Obama did not lift a finger or give a directive!
Another revelation from this hearing was with respect to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's involvement, or lack-thereof. Panetta and Dempsey both admitted that they were not in touch with Secretary Clinton during the attacks nor did they receive a request for help from the State Department.
I was pretty surprised that during his testimony, Panetta made it so clear that nothing was done to help the people on the ground. I'm not sure if a lot of people followed this as closely as I have so this might not jog everyone's memory.. but during the time when the details were still unfolding, I specifically remember hearing that Panetta claimed to have ordered military assets to move into Libya. I was able to dig up an article from USA Today where, the Pentagon press Secretary George Little claimed that when the attack began Panetta met with his senior military advisers, including the top U.S. commander for Africa Command who was in Washington for meetings and that within a few hours Panetta had ordered units to move to Libya. “The entire U.S. government was operating from a cold start,” Little said. Here is the USA Today article. Guess that was a lie too.
This whole thing really just stinks. I feel terrible for the families who are still waiting for answers and just want the truth. I feel bad that our men and women serving in the military and representing us overseas now know that their president did nothing to help save American lives.
As Mark Levin said last night, the president was AWOL during the attack. Take a listen to Levin's analysis from his show last night. He is on point.
For all the lefties out there who still can't understand the facts and are upset that I'm calling Obama a liar.. allow me to reiterate: Obama is a liar. If you are offended, good. You should be. I would be offended by myself too if I was dumb enough to be in love with a president as disgraceful as Obama. Instead of getting all emotional, why not just do some research and base your conclusions on facts and evidence? If you do that with an honest and open mind, I bet my piggy bank that you will come to the conclusion that Obama and his administration were in full cover up mode... Sending out Susan Rice, Jay Carney, Joe Biden and others out to lie and spin, diverting our attention to the Patreaus/CIA scandal, creating a false story about a video, lying to the families of the victims, avoiding questions, withholding information, etc., etc., and on and on and onnnn.
But hey, lets look at this from Obama's perspective. Technically speaking, it really isn't all his fault because he wasn't the only one who 'did nothing.' His entire staff was essentially also AWOL on 9/11. By their own accounts, his Secretary of Defense, his Secretary of State, the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his Deputy National Security Adviser did absolutely nothing. After all, there was an election to be won so this was likely the least of their worries.
I'm sure Obama and the left are thinking exactly what Hillary lamented during her testimony, "What difference, at this point, does it make?" At this point, for me, the difference is holding someone accountable and bringing them to justice. I want to know who is in charge of this circus, and who is responsible for it. Obama can not have it both ways. When Bin Ladden was killed at his specific direction, he was happy to assume the credit. So would it not make sense that Obama would also get credit for his failure to provide direction, which caused the death of 4 brave Americans? I think so.
