Update on International Poll Watchers

I've done additional research on the reaction to the OSCE's plans to monitor polls on election day as well as the legality of their presence. The media is picking up on this now and as a result more citizens and state government representatives are speaking out in various ways. Related: International Poll Watchers Monitoring US Elections

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott released a statement today concerning the OSCE's role in his state. His full statement can be found here. In part, Abbott says the following:

"Elections and election observation are regulated by state law. The Texas Election Code governs anyone who participates in Texas elections—including representatives of the OSCE. The OSCE’s representatives are not authorized by Texas law to enter a polling place. It may be a criminal offense for OSCE’s representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place’s entrance. Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE’s representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law."

State law varies as to whether or not the OSCE will be permitted to monitor certain polling places however OSCE officials made it clear on their website that they have secured the necessary invitations and will respect state law where they are not welcome.

In Texas, poll watchers are required to be registered voters of not just the state, but the county where they will observe.  In others like New Mexico, international observers are permitted in the polling place.

If you want to know what your state's requirements are on this, check your state-specific e-Book or, your state's election code for the guidelines.

True the Vote will have a hotline number that you can call should you see anything out of the ordinary on Election Day. Whether it is UN observers, the Department of Justice, any candidate engaged in electioneering, or anything else that appears to be a violation of your state's election code.

If we as citizens conduct ourselves with dignity and within the law, we can show the international community how completely ridiculous the accusations being thrown at us truly are!
